Sildenafil: ingredient and products

Sildenafil is an active ingredient used in ED medicines. Viagra is one product name; Penegra is another documented brand. The same ingredient name does not establish that every advertised product has the same authorization or formulation.

How it fits ED treatment

Sildenafil belongs to the PDE5 inhibitor family. It supports the response to sexual stimulation; it does not produce an erection without that stimulation. The Viagra EU label describes use before sexual activity and notes that food can delay the response. Read the current product information.

Before using it

Do not combine sildenafil with nitrates or riociguat. Medical suitability depends on cardiovascular health, other medicines and the specific label. See interactions and urgent symptoms.

Brand and generic names

“Generic Viagra” usually refers to sildenafil products, but it is not a precise product identity. Check the full name, ingredient, strength, formulation and local authorization. A sildenafil medicine for pulmonary hypertension has a different treatment context from an ED prescription.
