ED medicine interactions and urgent symptoms
Review key interaction warnings and recognize symptoms that need urgent medical care.
An ED medicine should be chosen with your health history and full medicine list in view. This guide highlights shared warnings; it cannot replace the complete leaflet for the actual formulation.
Nitrates and interacting medicines
Do not combine oral PDE5 inhibitors with nitrates, including medicines used for angina, or with riociguat. These combinations can cause a dangerous fall in blood pressure. Recreational nitrites or “poppers” also matter when discussing interactions.
Other medicines can alter ED-drug exposure or blood pressure. Tell the prescriber about all prescription medicines, nonprescription products and supplements. The ingredient hubs and product labels cover additional restrictions.
Heart health and symptoms
The Viagra label excludes use when sexual activity is inadvisable because of cardiovascular status. ED medicine is not a substitute for assessment of chest pain, and this directory does not recommend sildenafil as heart-protection treatment.
For chest pain, severe breathing difficulty or a serious allergic reaction, call emergency services. Tell the emergency team which ED medicine you took and when. Do not self-administer a nitrate after an ED medicine; emergency clinicians need that information to choose treatment safely.
Prolonged erections and sudden sensory changes
Seek urgent medical attention for an erection lasting more than four hours. Sudden loss or decrease of vision or hearing also requires prompt medical attention; stop the medicine and follow the label’s instructions.
Formulation-specific restrictions
Vardenafil has QT-interval precautions. Avanafil labels restrict strong CYP3A4 inhibitors. The Vitaros label says not to combine its cream with PDE5 inhibitors. A shared ingredient or familiar brand name does not eliminate these differences.
