Brand and generic ED medicines: read the product record

Distinguish an ingredient, a brand, a formulation and a country-specific medicine record.

A brand name identifies a product. An ingredient identifies the active substance. The phrase “generic Viagra” usually points toward sildenafil, but it is not enough to identify the actual medicine being offered.

Use a precise comparison

Start with the complete product name, ingredient, strength and formulation. Then check the manufacturer or authorization holder and the local regulator’s record. A regulator’s authorization and a seller’s claim that a medicine is “equivalent” are different kinds of evidence.

Viagra and Penegra connect to sildenafil; Cialis and Tadacip connect to tadalafil. Their profiles use different jurisdictions. These relationships do not establish that one pack can be substituted for another under your country’s rules.

Original brands and Indian branded generics

The original-brand view and Indian-brand view are ways to browse the same directory. Country of origin alone does not establish a medicine’s quality, authorization or suitability. Ask a licensed pharmacist about the product actually supplied.

Check the source as well as the medicine

FDA’s online-pharmacy guidance describes sellers offering products with wrong or missing ingredients and misleading storefronts. Check the pharmacy’s credentials through the relevant licensing authority, rather than treating packaging photographs or a review as verification.
